Indian ace HS Prannoy is set to make a highly anticipated return at the 2023 Japan Masters after recovering from a recent back injury, which forced him to withdraw from the Denmark and French Open tournaments. Having secured a bronze medal at the World Championships, Prannoy will cautiously resume play after a four-week break, facing Hong Kong’s unseeded Lee Cheuk Yui in his comeback match.
Gold medalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Lakshya Sen, is working towards regaining his form following a decline since his July triumph at the Canada Open. His initial challenge comes from the third-seeded local favorite, Kodai Naraoka. Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth is launching his campaign against a qualifier, and Priyanshu Rajawat, another Indian in the men’s singles, will face Lin Chun-Yi of Chinese Taipei.
PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, holds the eighth seed and stands as the sole Indian competitor in the women’s singles event. Her upcoming opponent is Mia Blichfeldt from Denmark, who is currently unseeded. Sindhu boasts a 6-1 record against the Danish shuttler ranked at No. 18 worldwide.
