The German Open, formerly known as the German Badminton Championships is an annual badminton event played by professional players, know the 2022 prize money

The German Open is an annual badminton event conducted in Germany since 1955 (Except for the years 1970, 1979, and 1998) and managed by the German Badminton Association or Deutscher Badminton Verband (DBV).

What Is The German Open Badminton And Format

Since 1955, multiple cities hosted this tournament such as Bonn (from 1995 to 1962), Hamburg (in 1963 and 1969), Lübeck (in 1964), Bochum (in 1965), Hanover (in 1966), Frankfurt (in 1967), West Berlin (in 1968), Oberhausen (from 1971 to 1974 and in 1978), Mülheim an der Ruhr (from 1975 to 1977, 1980 to 1982 and 2005 to present), Duisburg ( from 1983 to 1986 and 1999 to 2004), Düsseldorf (from 1987 to 1991) and Leverkusen ( from 1992 to 1995).

The German Opens was formerly called the German Badminton Championships until 1980. In 1980, it was changed to the Open Championships in 1981.

Yonex is the current sponsor of the German Opens. Yonex Co., Ltd. is a sports equipment manufacturer based in Japan. It makes tennis, badminton, golf, and running equipment and gear.

While it attracts professional players, the event is not part of the Badminton World Federation’s top levels of competition, being designated as a BWF Grand Prix Gold event until 2017 and a Super 300 tournament (6th level) from 2018 onwards.

BWF German Open Badminton Prize Money 2022 Breakdown

The total prize money for the German Opens is US$1,80,000.

The winner of the singles tournament will get $13.5k from the total prize pool. The winner in the doubles competition receives $14.2k.

Runner ups or finalists who did not win the Germany Open BWF tournament will get a $6.8k singles prize pool. The prize money for the runner-ups in doubles is the same as singles.

The reward split for the singles semi-finalist has been adjusted to $2.6k, while the prize share for the doubles semi-finalist has been adjusted to $2.5k.

Quarter-finalists in singles and doubles will be awarded a maximum of $1000, with a total reward of $1.3000. The table below contains further information about rewards.
