Ashmita Chaliha of Assam, the lone Indian winner in the tie, then put on a display to beat Riko Gunji 21-17 10-21 21-19 in 53 minutes, bringing India back into the game.
The two doubles pairings, as well as young Tara Shah, were unable to capitalise on the momentum and lost their matches in straight games.
