2023 Arctic Open latest results, day 2 schedule, date, venue, fixtures, & first-round updates
PV Sindhu and Nozomi Okuhara, both former world champions, are currently contending with injury recoveries. However, during their round of 32 encounter at the Arctic Open in Finland on Tuesday, it was Sindhu who exhibited a dominant performance against her Japanese opponent. The Indian swiftly secured victory with a score of 21-13, 21-6 in a brisk 33-minute match, which bore little resemblance to some of their previous intense showdowns. Sindhu’s upcoming contest at the Super 500 tournament will be against Wen Chi Hsu from Chinese Taipei, a rival she previously conquered during the Hangzhou Asian Games.
In the women’s singles match, Aakarshi Kashyap, ranked 41st, demonstrated her resilience by overcoming an initial deficit to secure victory over Lianne Tan from Belgium. The final score-line read 18-21, 22-20, 21-18. Kashyap is now set to face the formidable world No. 11, Wang Zhiyi of China, in the round of 16. Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Harshit Agarwal faced a setback during the qualifying round and was unable to make it to the main draw. He suffered a defeat at the hands of Joakim Oldorff from Finland, with the score-line showing 21-19, 21-12 in favor of Oldorff.
In the mixed doubles event, the Indian duo of K Sai Pratheek and Tanisha Crasto advanced to the round of 32. They displayed a commendable performance by defeating the Danish pair of Andreas Sondergaard and Iben Bergstein in the qualifying round, with the final score being 26-24, 21-18. Looking ahead to Wednesday, Kidambi Srikanth will be in action in the round of 32, where he will face Max Weisskirchen from Germany. Additionally, Kiran George and Mithun Manjunath will commence their men’s singles campaign.
