Over the recent years, the tournament in has failed to attract big names, with last big stars being India captains Krishnamachari Srikkanth, and Mohammad Azharuddin.
Back in the past, notably names like Sourav Ganguly, played Buchi Babu during his comeback trail in the mid 2000s. India T20 skipper Suryakimar Yadav will however, play a game for Mumbai during the upcoming edition.
Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament 2024 hisotry
The annual tournament is named in memory of Mothavarapu Venkata Mahipathi Naidu, popularly known as Buchi Babu Naidu. Buchi Babu was a pioneer in Indian cricket during the colonial era and organised cricket clubs for native Indians. He is widely considered as the ‘Father of South Indian/Madras Cricket’.

The upcoming tournament will take place across four venues in Tamil Nadu, including Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem and Natham. Tirunelveli and Natham will host the semifinals, with Natham also hosting the final match.
Format and prize money
The upcoming competition will follow the Ranji Trophy’s four-day format. This year’s winner is set to receive a cash prize worth Rs 3 lakh, while the runner-up will win Rs 2 lakh.
