Even though the French club issued a furious statement rubbishing the news of his move to Newcastle, sources revealed that the English club has agreed to all the conditions put forth by Lyon and that Guimaraes had accepted personal terms to join the Saudi-consortium controlled club. Though the news about a transfer worth 40 million Euros have been doing the rounds, it now stands that the Newcastle deal now over a transfer fee of 42 million Euros 10 million Euros in bonuses as well.
It was on 30th January 2020 when Guimaraes signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Ligue 1 side Lyon. As per the agreement, the Brazilian would stay at the club till the year 2024. The reported transfer fee paid to his former club Athletico Paranense amounted to a total of 20 million Euros, with the Brazilian club also securing a 20% sell-on clause. Bruno earns a total of 46,000 pounds per week and 2,392,000 pounds a year for Lyon as a defensive midfielder.
Guimaraes made it to Brazil’s under-23 team in the 2020 CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament, and in June 2021, the Brazilian was named in the squad for the 2020 Winter Olympics.
