Coming back to the scandal, it appears as though Brett’s name has caught up in a pretty serious legal situation which also involves former Mississippi Governor, Phil Bryant.

As per a report by Mississippi Today, some recently revealed texts shows that the quarterback received guidance from the former statesman on how to reallocate funds set aside for welfare communities.

One of the revealed texts in questions from the former governor reads, “Can we help [Favre] with his project? We should meet soon to see how I can make sure we keep your projects on course.”

The text was allegedly written by the former governor to a non-profit founder Nancy New in July 2019, just weeks after Bryant ousted the former welfare agency director John Davis for suspected fraud.

In another text between Favre and Bryant, the athlete seems to be questioning the governor’s shuffling around the department heads.

To which the governor responded as, “I will handle that… long story but had to make a change. But I will call Nancy and see what it will take.”

In another text, Favre asks Nancy New, “If you were to pay me, is there any way the media can find out where it came from and how much?”

To which Nancy replies, “No, we never have had that information publicized. I understand you being uneasy about that though.”

Brett’s involvement seems to have helped his daughter’s volleyball career. The filing claims that Bryant, Favre, New and Davis all came together and co-conspired to redirect roughly $5 million that was allocated to Mississippi’s welfare funds.

They instead used that fund to build a brand new volleyball stadium at the University of Southern Mississippi, where Favre’s daughter, Breleigh Favre, goes to school.

Although Bryant has denied his involvement in the project for years, one of the recently released texts reportedly shows otherwise. The texts even revealed that at a point the stadium was set to be named after him.

As per a report by Mississippi Today, New has already pleaded guilty to 13 felony charges related to the situation. While Davis is still awaiting trial.
