Elon Musk made light of the criticism by joking that “the woke mind infection” needs to be eradicated “otherwise nothing else matters” and that “the Branch Covidians are furious lol.”

Those that adhere to and support Anthony Fauci’s decisions during the COVID pandemic are known as “Branch Covidians.” In 2020, the medical professional took on the role of spokesperson for the US government’s reaction to the illness, promoting the wearing of masks and social seclusion. It led to conflict with Donald Trump, who was president at the time and demanded a return to normalcy.
Under the Biden administration, Fauci kept his position. However, several Republican politicians, notably Lauren Boebert, continued to criticise his recommendations. Author and speaker Heidi St. John asserted that Anthony Fauci was the Branch Covidians’ high priest.
The name “Branch Covidians” is a parody of the “Branch Davidians,” a sect of religion that Vox has dubbed a cult.
