The South African bantamweight boxing champion Ronald Malindi, who had been shot in the head a few weeks prior, has passed away.

The South African fighter passed away on Saturday after being hospitalised after the incident, as per a report in The Sun.
Malindi competes in the batamweight division and has a 19-fight winning streak. The moniker “King” was given to him. On September 5, the 29-year-old was reportedly shot twice in the head in Westbury, Johannesburg.
His shooting case is still open and unresolved. Malindi had a perfect record in 19 contests, including four defence of the national championship. Malindi had spent time working out with his trainer Sean Smith at his Sunninghill gym on the day of the shooting, September 5, 2015. Malindi was reportedly shot later that day while travelling home.

As per The Sun, at the time, police disclosed that they were looking into a “attempted murder after a man was shot by unknown suspects.”
In a statement, Boxing South Africa stated:
“It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Ronald “King” Malindi, a true South African bantamweight champion with an unblemished record of 19 professional fights without a single loss.
Further was stated:
He stood just one victory away from securing sole possession of the SA bantamweight belt.
“Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to this remarkable boxer.”

Who was Ronald Malindi?
Ronald Malindi was a 29-year-old boxing fighter who was a taxi driver before he became a pro-boxer from Tshakhuma outside of Thohoyandou and was a resident of Brixton. The South African was nicknamed “King” and was (19-0-0).
The Reigning South African bantamweight champion defeated Tholumusa Ngema in the opening round of his professional debut on September 24, 2017, at Emperors Palace near Kempton Park.
On July 8, 2022, at the Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall in Middelburg, he defeated Rofhiwa Nemushungwa in a 12-round split decision to retain his title, achieving a phenomenal career record of 19-0; 9. It was his last fight.
