Deontay Wilder brief bio

Deontay Wilder is an American heavyweight boxer who was born on October 22, 1985 Tuscaloosa, USA. He has a younger brother named Marsellos, who is also a professional boxer like Deontey. Wilder attended Tuscaloosa Central High School and graduated back in 2004. While studying in high school he dreamed of playing football and/or basketball for The University of Alabama.

However, he had a daughter with his then-girlfriend Helen Duncan in 2005. Sadly, their daughter was born with Spina Bifida, as such her health issues made it impossible for Deontay to attend The University of Alabama. Instead, he attended Shelton State Community College and gave up his dreams of playing division 1 college basketball and football.

Deontay briefly slipped into a deep depression and even considered committing suicide. However, he managed to come out of the depression, and eventually shifted his focus on boxing. Much to everyone’s surprise, despite beginning his training only after the age of 20, he took the boxing world by storm, by winning the National Golden Gloves and the US Championships two years later. He also won a Bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and recorded and amateur record of 30 – 5.

Deontay’s fights with Tyson Fury

Deontay’s fights with Tyson Fury are some of his most memorable fights. He fought twice with the British/Irish heavyweight, with each fight bringing in massive paydays. The pair should have had three fights, but Tyson went on a two-year drug and alcohol binge. He had gained over 100 pounds and was declared medically unfit to fight.

Tyson and Deontay eventually fought on December 1, 2018 in Las Vegas. Tyson won a guaranteed $3 million while Deontay won a guaranteed $4 million. After 12 rounds of intense boxing, the fight shockingly ended in a draw.

The two then had a rematch with both fighters guaranteed $28 million each, plus a 50/50 cut of pay-per-view profits. Tyson Fury eventually came out as the champion with a TKO in the seventh round.
