Kazakh boxing star Aidos Yerbossynuly was placed under a coma after suffering a bleed on his brain after suffering from a brutal defeat against David Morrell Jr, know his latest head injury update

The fight between the two, which took place in Minneapolis last weekend, got stopped in the final-round stoppage after Yerbossynuly sustained heavy damage.

Following his defeat against David Morrell Jr., Yerbossynuly is under an induced coma after suffering a bleed on the brain.

Yerbossynuly Placed In Coma

The incident occurred after Yerbossynuly competed for the super-middleweight world title against Morrell Jr. in Minneapolis.

Officials stopped the fight in the final round of the contest after Morrell floored Yerbossynuly twice in the final round. The Kazakh star suffered repeated damage from Morrell’s brutal shots.

As soon as the fight stopped, Yerbossynuly received immediate medical attention in the ring. Officials took him to the hospital shortly after treating him.

At the hospital, the medical staff elected to place the Yerbossynuly under a medically induced coma. They chose to do this due to an a bleed on the brain. The 30-year-old is still currently hospitalised.

More Boxers Under Coma

Yerbossynuly isn’t the only fighter placed in a coma this year. Russian fighter Arrest Sahakyan, and Simiso Buthelezi are also currently under a coma.

Yerbossynuly fell down after two pummelling shots from Morrell in the final round. Match referee Tony Weeks eventually stepped in to call a halt on the clash. Many have speculated that Weeks should have stopped the fight several minutes earlier.

Statements

Match Promoters Premier Boxing Champions and TGB Promotions made a joint statement following the tragic event. They stated that both the representatives of TGB Promotions and PBC are currently monitoring the situation on the ground in Minneapolis with Aidos’ team.

Both companies refused to share further details out of respect for Yerbossynuly and his family’s privacy.

The boxing community also reacted with a lot of grief and sympathy following the shocking incident. Lou Di Bella, a promoter requested fans to pray for Aidos Yerbossynuly and that he needs prayers and healing energy.

Lou also stated that the incident was foreseeable by the middle of the fight, adding that the fight got frightening to watch by the eighth round.

Morrell’s Trainer Enraged

Morrell’s trainer Ronnie Shields was also stunned by the referee’s decision to continue the fight till the 12th round. He insisted that the referee should have stopped the fight sooner.

He added that the officials allowed Yerbossnuly to take in excessive punishment. Morrell’s trainer further mentioned that though the referee, and Tony Weeks are really good refs, they sometimes need to be stopped.

Morrell’s trainer also revealed that Yerbossynuly soon started to fight dirty because he didn’t want to get knocked out.

He commended the Yerbossynuly for taking in all the punishment, but mentioned that sometimes some fighters need to be saved from themselves. He expressed his concern stating that he might never be able to fight again.
