Booker Prize-winner author Dame Hilary Mantel left us for the heavenly abode, know her cause of death and net worth

In a statement, Publisher Harper Collins confirmed that Mantel passed away “suddenly yet peacefully” on Thursday night, September 22 after suffering a stroke.

The renowned author was surrounded by her family and friends at the time of her death. She was just 70-year-old. She was known for her best-selling novel Wolf Hall.

She was also famous for publishing her memoirs and short stories. The tragic news of her demise was confirmed by her longtime publisher, 4th Estate Books in a statement.

The publisher wrote on Twitter, “We are heartbroken at the death of our beloved author, Dame Hilary Mantel, and our thoughts are with her friends and family, especially her husband, Gerald.”

The post further read, “This is a devastating loss and we can only be grateful she left us with such a magnificent body of work.”

As per various reports, throughout her life, the author suffered from an advanced stage of endometriosis. The disease took many years to be diagnosed and required surgical menopause in her late 20s.

She needed to continue the treatment all her life and was unable to have children.

In an interview, her long-time editor, Nicholas Pearson, revealed that the author had just started working on a new novel.

He said, “Only last month I sat with her on a sunny afternoon in Devon while she talked excitedly about the new novel she had embarked on. That we won’t have the pleasure of any more of her words is unbearable.”

After learning the news of her demise, many other authors, friends and fans took to Twitter to pay their tributes.

Harry Potter author J.K Rowling expressed her grief via Twitter as she wrote, “We’ve lost a genius.”

Mantel was born in Glossop, Derbyshire, on July 6 1952. She published her first novel titled “Every Day is Mother’s Day,” in 1985, followed by its sequel “Vacant Possession,” in 1986.

Apart from being an author, she had also worked as a social worker while she was living in Saudi Arabia. She had lived there for 4 years before returning to the UK in the mid-1980s.

In 1987, she turned into a film critic for Spectator magazine. Over the years, Mantel has continued publishing novels and eventually got worldwide success with Wolf Half in 2009, which even got rave reviews and also the Booker Prize.

In the year 2012, the author even released a sequel of Wolf Half titled ‘Bring Up Bodies,’ which again led her to win the Booker Prize.

While continuing 5he trilogy, she even wrote another novel titled The Mirror and the Light, which was published in 2020. Her net worth stood at $5 million.
