Former rugby player and Australia’s first out homosexual bobsledder, Simon Dunn, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35, know about his cause of death

On Saturday (21 January), police in Sydney discovered Dunn’s body in his residence; they have stated that they are not investigating his death as suspicious.

Authorities in New South Wales said in a statement, “At about 10am on Saturday, January 21, 2023, police were called to an unit on Crown Street, Surry Hills, after allegations of a body of a male had been found inside.

Simon Dunn made history by being Australia’s first out homosexual Olympic bobsledder. After hanging up his skates for good in 2016, he picked up rugby and joined the Sydney Convicts, an all-gay side.

According to early reports, Simon Dunn’s death cause is suicide but an official cause isn’t known till now. Australian, former bobsledder Simon Dunn had announced that he and his partner, Felix Maisey-Curtis, have split after five years together back in 2022. His net worth stood at $5 million.

In addition to his fame as a bobsledder, Dunn spent over a decade as a member of the Sydney Convicts, an openly homosexual and tolerant rugby union team. While at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Dunn competed for Australia on the national bobsleigh squad.

Simon was dedicated to volunteer work and giving back to the community; he helped numerous organisations by lending his name and reputation. Dunn helped every company, from Woolworths to Lion, expand their diversity and inclusion efforts by educating them on the unique needs of their LGBTQIA+ staff and customers.

Simon Dunn wanted to compete in Winter Olympics

Dunn had previously stated his intention to compete in the 2022 Winter Olympics, but a bicep injury prevented him from doing so. Simon Dunn said at the end of 2017 that he had a rough year, losing his mentor and not being able to realise his dream of competing in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Heath Thorpe, an Australian gymnast, was among the first to tweet tributes to Simon Dunn, writing that the bobsledder “inspired and changed people’s time on earth for the better”.
