The wonderful actor and director, Bob passed away at the age of 76.

The actor worked on stage, screen and also on television. Bob was the younger brother of Patti LuPone.

Until the spring of 2011, he was the director of the MFA drama program at the New School for Drama in NYC. Bob was quite famous for a variety of his appearances and attributes.

Back in 1999 to 2007, on television, he played the role of Dr. Bruce Cusamano in five episodes of The Sopranos.

Later, in 2003 to 2009, he also appeared in two episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent as Nelson Broome and one episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2004.

Cause of Bob’s death?

The tragic news of the actor’s passing was announced by his theatre team. As per his team, Bob LuPone died after battling from Cancer.

The leader of the theatre died on Saturday, Aug 27, 2022 from battling with pancreatic cancer. He had been fighting with the disease for approximately 3 years.

The theatre company took to their official social media handle to announce the passing of their leader.

The company penned down, “The MCC Theater community mourns the loss of our much loved and uniquely inspiring partner, colleague, and dear friend, Bob LuPone, who lived fearlessly and with great curiosity, good humor, a boundless passion for connection and a whole lot of heart.

“We will miss him deeply and always.”

Bob is survived by his wife, Virginia, son Orlando, sister Patti, and brother William. Back in a 2019 interview with Primary Stages Off-Broadway Oral History Project, Bob revealed his fondness for theatre as he talked passionately about life in the theatre.

Bob LuPone’s Career

Bob got his first professional work in 1966, in the ensemble of The Pajama Game, at the Westbury Music Fair.

However, the actor got his breakthrough in Noel Coward’s Sweet Potato in 1968, after that he appeared in many projects such as Minnieโ€™s Boys, The Rothschilds, and The Magic Show.

Although he was originally casted as an AI in A Chorus Line, however, after the original actor left, he persuaded the creator and director Michael Bennett to let him perform Zach.

Later, he was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance as Zach.

Apart from these, there are also other broadway performances of him which are known world-wide, such as A Thousand Clowns in 2001, True West in 2000, A View from the Bridge in 1997, Late Nite Comic in 1987, Saint Joan in 1977, and The Magic Show in 1974.

After learning the news of his demise, many people took to their social media handles to pay their tributes as they had flooded the internet with tribute messages.
