After taking over as Wayne Rooney’s manager in early January, Mowbray won four of his eight games in that role. Then, in February, he made a temporary resignation.
Following a complete medical leave of absence, his assistant Mark Venus also quit in March, allowing former Blues manager Gary Rowett to rejoin the team. Meanwhile, fans are curious about who will be taking over as the next manager of the club. Let’s explore the potential favourites.
Birmingham City’s potential manager, favourites and odds
Birmingham will immediately begin the search for a new head coach, according to CEO Garry Cook. But who might actually succeed St. Andrew’s at Knighthead Park as the next man in the dugout?
The market has opened and discussions are expected to heat up throughout the West Midlands. Almost ten months into the Knighthead era, Birmingham City is currently looking for their fourth permanent manager.
The early favourite for the job is Liam Rosenior, the Hull City manager who was fired recently. Alex Neil, the fired Stoke City manager, is currently the second favourite for the position.
- Liam Rosenior 23/10
- Alex Neil 5/2
- Ian Evatt 7/2
- Darren Ferguson 4/1
- Gary Rowett 5/1
- Will Still 5/1
- Michael Skubala 6/1
- Steve Bruce 8/1
- Michael Beale 9/1
- Ashley Cole 10/1
- Scott Parker 10/1
- Frank Lampard 20/1
- Neil Warnock 50/1
Meanwhile, as Mowbray stepped down due to illness, the Blues Trust honoured him and asked owners Knighthead to appoint a successor who could establish the club on stable foundations and build a positive culture.
The Blues are hoping the new manager can bring stability and success after a turbulent 2023–24 season in which the team hired six managers in all, three of them on an interim basis.
