In an unexpected 4-3 victory over world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, world number 49 David Grace advanced to the round of 32 of the BetVictor Northern Ireland Open in Belfast. Neil Robertson defeated John Astley 4-1 to advance in his bid for the first Northern Ireland Open victory. Following his victory, he is scheduled to face China’s Li Hang, who defeated local favourite Jordan Brown 4-0, in a challenging match. While Xiao Guodong defeated Iranian Hossein Vafaei 4-3, Welsh three-time World Champion Mark Williams defeated previous European Masters victor Jimmy Robertson 4-2.
Mark Allen overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat world number 105 Andy Lee at the Waterfront Hall and advanced toward his goal of winning consecutive championships. After defeating Barry Hawkins 4-2, Michael White managed to earn a spot in the round of 16 alongside David Gilbert, who defeated David Lilley 4-1 with the help of two centuries. In other matches of Wednesday, Aaron Hill lost 1-4 against Tom Ford and sixth-ranked Kyren Wilson also lost by same margin against Stephen Maguire.
Matches will be best of seven frames up to and including the fourth round, like with all Home Nations competitions. There will be nine frames in each quarterfinal, eleven frames in each semifinal, and seventeen frames in the championship game.

Prize Money Pool Distribution of 2022 Northern Ireland Open
The Northern Ireland Open champion will receive £80,000 in prize money in 2022, but the runner-up will only receive £35,000. Each semifinalist will receive at least £17,500 in prize money from the $427,000 total prize pool. Hoessein Vafaei and Andy Lee will both take home only £4,500 in prize money after being eliminated in the Round of 32.
