PDC Betfred World Matchplay Darts 2022 is scheduled to begin from 19th July 2022, we take a look at the tournament format, playing line-up, schedule, tickets, draw, fixtures, prize money

The Professional Darts Corporation will host the World Matchplay for the 29th consecutive year in 2022 at the Betfred World Matchplay. From July 16 to July 24, 2022, the competition will take place in the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

After defeating Dimitri Van den Bergh 18-9 in the 2021 championship match, Peter Wright is the current champion. On the day of the main tournament’s final, a separate women’s event will also be held in this competition.

Betfred World Matchplayย Tournament Format

In the first round, the best of 19 legs will be used in all matches. Meanwhile, in the second round, all matches will be best of 21 legs. Later in the quarterfinal, all matches will feature a best of 31 legs match. A Best of 33 Legs format will also be used for the semi-final while best of 35 leg format will be used for the final.

In his first appearance on the renowned Winter Gardens stage following his convincing victory in the 2021 competition, Wright will face Latvian rookie Madars Razma. Three more first-round matches will take place on a tantalizing opening night in Blackpool, including contests between 2020 champion Dimitri Van den Bergh vs Callan Rydz and five-time televised championship winner Jonny Clayton vs Rowby-John Rodriguez. In the afternoon session on Sunday, the 2019 runner-up Michael Smith will play Andrew Gilding, the 2018 champion Gary Anderson will play Daryl Gurney, and the winner of the UK Open, Danny Noppert, will play Brendan Dolan.

In a mouthwatering Sunday evening session that also has Luke Humphries taking on Nathan Aspinall, Joe Cullen facing up against Damon Heta, and 2007 champion James Wade competing against Martin Lukeman, big names Michael van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis square off. On Monday, the first round will come to an end. The night’s main event will feature world number two Gerwyn Price as the Welshman faces off against German rookie Martin Schindler.

Following the second round on Tuesday, July 19 and Wednesday, July 20, the quarterfinals will be held on Thursday, July 21 and Friday, July 22. The semi-finals will be conducted on July 23 and the final will be held on July 24. The winner of the final will receive the Phil Taylor Trophy and the ยฃ200,000 grand prize.

The PDC Order of Merit’s top 16 players at the deadline of July 11 will be seeded for the competition. The top 16 players who did not qualify by the cutoff date in the ProTour Order of Merit will not be seeded.

Prize Money Pool Distribution Of Betfred World Matchplay 2022

The winner of the Betfred World Matchplay 2022 will receive ยฃ200,000, which is double the amount of the runner-up, from the net prize fund of ยฃ800,000. According to the statement, the runner-up would get ยฃ100,000 overall.
