The top eight players from the current PDC Women’s Series Order of Merit will compete for glory on Sunday, July 24, in the new £25,000 tournament, the PDC’s first fully broadcast women’s event. Following a spate of dominant performances, Ashton, who has won seven Women’s Series championships this year to take a £2,300 lead at the top of the Order of Merit, heads to Blackpool as the 5/4 favorite with title sponsor Betfred.

The 51-year-old has been at the vanguard of the women’s game for the past ten years, and in January 2020, at qualifying school, she became the first female player to obtain a PDC Tour Card. During her two years competing professionally, Ashton defeated players including Michael Smith, Rob Cross, Dimitri Van den Bergh, and Adrian Lewis. At the 2017 UK Open, she achieved the first broadcast ton-plus average by a woman.

The eight-player knockout game will feature four televised title winners, together with Fallon Sherrock, Lorraine Winstanley, and Aileen de Graaf. The Lancashire veteran is one of the sport’s initial trailblazers. Along with the gifted young players O’Brien and Katie Sheldon, the seasoned team of Laura Turner and Rhian Griffiths will make their first appearances in a PDC televised tournament.
