A video of a London man taking part in a fiery food challenge has gone viral, sparking all kinds of reactions from netizens online.

A popular Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant in Brick Lane called Bengal Village went viral for serving what they claim is “London’s hottest curry.”

The dish is reportedly so intense that some diners have ended up crying, puking, or nearly passing out.

A video showing a man named Daniel attempting Bengal Village’s infamous curry has recently gone viral on social media. In the video, Raj, who owns the restaurant where the incident took place, dramatically walks out of the kitchen wearing a gas mask and carrying the dish like it’s biohazard material.

Daniel then proceeds to take a bite of the dish and instantly realizes that he’s made a mistake after he starts sweating profusely with his face contorting in pain. Within just a few seconds, Daniel staggers outside before collapsing on the pavement and Raj quickly follows with a mango lassi in hand. A caption in the video then reads:

London’s hottest curry makes a man leave the restaurant and think about what he just ate.”

Bengal Village’s infamous curry

The infamous curry features a brutal mixture of 72 different chilies sourced from around the globe. The curry includes many of the world’s hottest chilies, like Carolina Reapers, scotch bonnets, bird’s eye chilies, naga variants, Bangladesh’s snake chili, and a rare one Raj calls pook morich or fly chili. Kitchen staff from the restaurant reportedly have to handle the ingredients with blue gloves in order to avoid skin burns.

Despite all the warnings and visible suffering, the curry remains a featured dish at Bengal Village and popular among customers. The dish is so severe that one customer reportedly needed medical attention after trying out the fish. Despite this, thrill-seekers often continue to order the dish priced at £21.95, or about ₹2,500.

The flagship dish sets punters back £22 but, owing to its array of rare spices, costs £50 to make at Bengal Village, 75 Brick Lane, E1 6QL.

Bengal Village in London is a family-run restaurant known for its Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, and it is owned by a group of partners, including two brothers and one of the owners, who arrived in Britain in 1973, is based in Redbridge and previously lived in Bow with his family. The restaurant is located in the heart of Brick Lane, also known as Curry Mile.

The “hottest curry challenge” at Bengal Village in London, located on Brick Lane, offers a unique prize for those who can brave their extremely spicy dish: free meals for the entire table if you finish the entire dish in 15 minutes.
