The second seed Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia on Wednesday night at Tennis Arena Portoroz, defeated Spaniard Cristina Bucsa in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the Slovenia Open’s round of 8 and face Ana Bogdan who defeated Slovenian Tamara Zidansek 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-1 to fix her last eight place.

After winning the title in Romania a month ago, Bogdan looked good in her opening round match and is eager to gain momentum. She has been playing well lately, and form is important at this stage of the season when legs begin to wear out. Bogdan will keep performing satisfactorily and is somewhat more proficient on hard courts, which will provide her with the advantage she needs to get to the final four.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, on the WTA Tour, Haddad Maia has been one of the year’s biggest breakout talents. Given that she has beaten nearly all of her prior opponents, Haddad Maia will present a much greater test. The Brazilian advanced to the final in Cincinnati earlier this year, showcasing her talent on hard courts. Especially on a hard court, Haddad Maia is too strong and good for Bogdan to handle, and she is expected to win with ease.
