The Bombay High Court has granted divorce to model-dancer Dhanashree Verma and cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal.

The romance between Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma started in 2020 when the cricket player enrolled in Dhanashree’s online courses amid the COVID-19 shutdown. The teacher-student bond quickly developed into something deeper, and they fell in love.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma were married in a traditional wedding in Gurgaon in December 2020. Their family and close friends attended the lavish event.

Following the divorce, the cricket player Yuzvendra Chahal was spotted showing off a black T-shirt that read, “Be your own sugar daddy.” The caption on Chahal’s T-shirt quickly caught the attention of internet users with its backside reading “They come they go” in what was a clear jibe at his ex-wife, rereferring to how women came and went in a man’s life.

Users expressed their surprise over the cricketer indeed wearing a t-shirt with such a text, while many humorously explained the meaning of ‘sugar daddy’ as they stated that Chahal was sending out a message for everyone to be ‘financially independent’ and not depends on others financially as he referred to Dhanashree as a gold digger.

A sugar daddy usually refers to a wealthy, usually older man who gives expensive gifts to someone much younger in return for companionship or s*xual favors. A gold digger meanwhile is a person who forms a relationship with another purely to extract money from them.

Regarding his career, Chahal was purchased by Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the IPL 2025 auction for Rs 18 crore. Chahal was recently seen at the Champions Trophy Final seated near to social media sensation RJ Mahvash. The two have been connected to one another before, though. A photo of RJ Mahvash and the cricket player from a Christmas event went viral in December.

Rumor had it that Dhanashree had already asked Yuzvendra for ₹60 crore in alimony.

Bar and Bench, however, cited their consent term, which clarified that Yuzvendra Chahal had committed to giving Dhanashree Verma ₹4 crore 75 lakhs in permanent alimony.

But according to reports, Yuzvendra Chahal has only paid ₹2 crore, 37 lakhs, and 55,000 so far.

The Hindu Marriage Act’s six-month cooling-off period was waived by the Bombay High Court, enabling Yuzvendra and Dhanashree to immediately proceed with their mutually consenting divorce. The court considered it a non-compliance when the remaining money was not paid. It is allegedly the cause of the cooling-off plea’s denial.
