The BCCI is debating raising Rohit Sharma and Company’s pay, announcing new contracts in February, know the new players salary list in the central contract in 2023
The BCCI plans to increase player salaries.
Indian cricket players will become wealthy, just like the Indian Cricket Board. Following a windfall from IPL and WPL Media Rights and the sale of franchises, BCCI is currently debating a 10–20% increase in player compensation. Since 2017, Rohit Sharma & Co. have not had a raise. Indian players may receive a substantial raise given that more than five years have passed. The new contracts are expected to be announced by BCCI in February after a delay.
BCCI central contract for 2023 to see salary rise in Grade A, B and C players salaries list
A BCCI official confirms the news.
When a top BCCI official was approached, he confirmed the news. According to the official, yes, a salary hike is being thought about since the income grows every five years. He said the players deserve it because they have been playing cricket continuously. But since it’s a group decision, everyone must support it. However, as compared to England’s pay, Indian players make more money from match fees.
The Grade A+ slab was introduced by the Vinod Rai-led CoA, with all format specialists receiving Rs 7 Crore. Since that time, the BCCI has continued to maintain four slabs, each worth Rs 7 Cr, Rs 5 Cr, Rs 3 Cr, and Rs 1 Cr.
What changes will likely be made?
According to InsideSport sources, the highest category slab, currently at Rs 7 Crore, is being discussed as becoming Rs 10 Cr. Players in Grades B and C may earn approximately Rs. 5 and Rs. 3 Crore, respectively, while the Rs. 5 Crore slab is likely to increase to Rs. 7 Crore.
During the December meeting of the Apex Council, the BCCI examined the new contracts. However, it was suspended until the new selection committee took over. Senior players who were out of favour were a topic of intense discussion and it is anticipated to be released by the end of the month.
Ishant Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, and Ajinkya Rahane will all be out of the contracts. After a series of ineffective performances, Mayank Agarwal is also likely to be out. Shikhar Dhawan will also likely no longer be included in the contracts after losing favour.
The good news is that Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav will be promoted. At the moment, Hardik Pandya is in Grade B. He will be promoted to Grade A since he replaced Rohit Sharma as T20 captain. Additionally, SKY will be upgraded to Grade A. The other notable person who is expected to move up to Grade A is Shubman Gill.
With KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli on the list, the Grade A+ is expected to stay the same. White-ball experts Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will be covered under the new contracts among the newcomers. Umran Malik will also be given a spot in the Grade C contract for T20 alone.
