The top six candidates for the position of head coach at Barnsley have been disclosed, with the club reportedly showing interest in Martin Devaney, 43, know the new next manager odds

According to Alan Nixon, first team coach Martin Devaney will probably be a candidate for the position. This would be an inside appointment, and the candidate is familiar with the team because he played there from 2005 to 2011. After years of retirement, the fan favourite returned in November 2015 as the Tykes’ Professional Development Phase coach.

Poya Asbaghi was fired from his position as manager at the conclusion of the 2021–22 season, and he was then named as a caretaker. After Duff was hired, Devaney joined the coaching staff as a first-team coach. According to the sources, Barnsley could be promoting from within rather than employing an outsider at this moment.

Devaney is reported to have the “club in his heart,” and their hierarchy wants to elevate him. This occurs as Michael Duff departs for Swansea City in Wales on a three-year contract. The Reds claimed in a statement that they offered him a better deal and a contract extension before the Swans expressed interest.

Swansea, who had to compensate the Tykes for his services, has a three-year deal with the 45-year-old. Duff moved to Oakwell from Cheltenham in June 2022, and two years remained on the contract he signed there.

In the one season, he was in charge, his Barnsley team placed fourth in the third tier but was defeated by Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley after beating Bolton in the play-off semifinals. The highest League One finish for the Robins in club history came in Duff’s first season with Cheltenham, who finished in 15th place.
