Though the club is recently struggling financially and it is well known among the players who are seeing a paycut in order for the team to continuously operate as normal.
But after team’s early exit in the Europe League against Manchester United, there are renewed fears of Barcelona’s financial state.
The Chief of La Liga, Tebas on Thursday, in London stated that, “As of today, Barcelona doesn’t have any room in its budget to spend in the upcoming transfer window,” at the Financial Times’ Business of Football summit.
He further added, “Barcelona has been involved in questionable behaviour which has had an impact on LaLiga and we are acting accordingly. We have ruled that they can no longer sign more players.”
Tebas continued, “They sold off £620m (€700m) in TV rights and tried to find different ways to solve the situation but they won’t be able to do that next season. We have strict economic controls. At the end of each window, we tell all the clubs in LaLiga what they can spend.
“In the case of Barcelona, they have to drop from spending on wages and transfers from £532m to £399m (€650m to €450m), so it’s a budget of minus £177m (€200m).
“They have to reduce their investment in players and we have encouraged them to sell players because, for every amount they raise in sales, they can spend 40 per cent of that.”
As per the statement, Barcelona will have to raise a sum of £178 million to have any chance of entering into the summer transfer market. As per several reports, even if the team sell £178 million worth of players, they will only be able to spend a total of 40% which will be around £71 million.
Though it looks another set back for the team as it’s another difficult summer for Xavi’s men, even though they are all set to win La Liga. The team is currently 7 points of Real Madrid having lost twice in the league of all season.
However, at the end of season, there will be a bit of a hot sale as they will attempting to sell enough players in order for the team to compete in the transfer market.
But for now, it looks that the team won’t be able to sign any players for this summer.
