This year’s Ballon d’Or will feature a new set of voting rules.
New Set of Voting Rules for Ballon d’Or 2022
Following the new set of voting rules, players will be judged based on a single season’s performance. This means that performances at the 2022 World Cup, which is scheduled for November, will not be considered for this year’s award. Instead, it will be judged when voting for the 2023 Ballon d’Or next year.
Another important change is the significance placed on trophies (aka ‘Jorginho’s Law’), which has been scaled down. This means that the prize will reflect the performance of the best footballers from each season rather than seeing who lifts the most silverware.
