It’s safe to say that Lewandowski is easily one of the best strikers in the world currently. Not many players can match his goal-scoring and finishing ability. The Polish player is a full package and I feel the Polish National team and Bayern Munich should thank their stars that they have such an amazing striker in their squad.
One of the most successful players in Bundesliga history, Lewandowski had a spectacular 2020-21 season. The man was in full form as he scored an extremely impressive 48 goals in a total of 40 appearances across all competitions for Bayern Munich. Lewandowski went on to break Gerd Muller’s record when he scored his 41st Bundesliga goal of the season.
Muller, a footballing-legend who sadly passed away recently at the age of 75 had set the record in 1971-72 which Lewandowski broke. The 32-year old striker played a critical role in helping Bayern Munich lift the Bundesliga trophy once again this year. Not just that, he also won his first European Golden Shoe award and scored 3 goals in 3 matches for Poland in the Euro 2020 tournament this year.
Lewandowski also lifted the German Super Cup trophy on Tuesday by defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-1 where he scored a brace for Bayern. He has now scored a total of 24 goals against Dortmund, where he spent four seasons from 2010-2014.
If he starts off the 2021-22 season with a similar form, Robert Lewandowski can definitely hope to win the Best Player award for a second time. The betting odds for his win stand at 7/1 as of now whilst they are at 2/5 for favourite Lionel Messi.
