The Badminton Association of Malaysia, the host organisation, will collaborate with Badminton Asia to stage this competition. Malaysia will be hosting this biannual tournament for the second time in a row; the first time they hosted it, they won the men’s category championship.
The competition will also act as the Asian qualifying round for the Thomas & Uber Cup, which will take place in Chengdu, China in 2024.
Meanwhile, India defeated China 3-2 in the women’s badminton Asia Team Championships, with star shuttler P V Sindhu making a triumphant comeback here on Wednesday following a four-month injury layoff. India was guaranteed a spot in the knockout phase even before its initial game because Group W only had two teams, but it did so in spectacular fashion by defeating the top-seeded Chinese team.
The Badminton Asia Team Championships were established in 2016 and are held every two years. One of the five continental organisations that fly the flag of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) is Badminton Asia, which is in charge of organising it. It is a platform where the best countries in Asia gather to compete and present their claims for the trophy.
In the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, Malaysia and Indonesia are the reigning champions. Indonesia holds a record three championship victories in the men’s division. In contrast, Japan has won two titles, which is the record for most wins in the women’s division.
