India’s women made history on Friday in Selangor, Malaysia, when they defeated Japan 3-2 to make their first-ever appearance in the Badminton Asia Team Championship final.
Even though double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu lost her singles match, young stars Ashmita Chaliha and Anmol Kharb prevailed in their singles matches, and Jolly Treesa and Gayatri Gopichand won their doubles rubber to change Indian history.
On the other hand, after losing narrowly to second-seeded Japan in Friday’s quarterfinal match in Shah Alam, Malaysia, the Indian men’s badminton team exits the Badminton Asia Team Championship.

India took two wins in men’s singles with Lakshya Sen and the men’s doubles win with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. However, Kidambi Srikanth made a mistake while in a winning position, losing the match’s last game 19–12 to 20–22.
As Malaysia’s men defeated Japan in the semi-finals of the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024, Lee Zii Jia assisted them in reaching the championship match. The hosts who defeated Korea 3-2, will play People’s Republic of China for the title.
