Cricket fans were left wondering when Jasprit Bumrah’s would return from his injury who would replace the fast bowler.
The BCCI has however clarified on this matter. BCCI have stated that Mohammad Siraj has replaced Jasprit Bumrah for the T20I series against South Africa.
What Caused The Injury?
So how exactly did Bumrah’s injury happen? According to definition given by Johns Hopkins Medicine, a stress fracture is defined as:
“Spondylolysis is a stress fracture through the pars interarticularis of the lumbar vertebrae. The pars interarticularis is a thin bone segment joining two vertebrae. It is the most likely area to be affected by repetitive stress. This condition is fairly common and is found in one out of every 20 people.”
So now, the question is how does a stress fracture affect a fast bowler? The answer to this is quite easy – fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah carry the worst stress loads out of all the participants in a cricket field.
This makes such players prone to injuring his rotor calf or even incurring a back stress fracture.
Treatment
As of now, the only treatment Jasprit Bumrah can avail for this injury is ample rest and some conditioning exercises. These exercises will strengthen the core and keep the back in relief.
However, a back stress fracture firstly needs ample rest and recovery time before the exercises kick in.
Jasprit Bumrah Injury Possible Return Date
The stipulated recovery time-period for a back stress fracture is a minimum of 4 months. Of course, this may depend on the severity of the injury.
However, based on Jasprit Bumrah’s reports, he can very well be out for more than 6 months. This is because he had previously been suffering severe backaches, which are not a good sign.
As such, Bumrah will most likely return for action by March if his recovery goes to plan.
