Islamabad and Zalmi recently met in the Eliminator rounds of the PSL 2023 where Zalmi captain Babar Azam’s incredible performance helped his side to a strong score of 183/8 in 20 overs. Islamabad United failed to reach the score with just 171/6, after suffering a middle-order collapse.

However, surprising incident involving the two captains Shadab and Bbabar Azam caught the attention of fans. Earlier in the eliminator match, Shadab had invited Zalmi to bat first. As the game progressed, a rather unusual incident took place right before the 13th over of the first innings.

Babar Azam was on a roll having scored 63 runs and looked to score a three-figure mark. However, United captain Shadab, who was preparing to bowl the next over, came near the stump mic and said: ‘Babar out hai’. Much to the surprise of everyone watching, Shadab dismissed Babar in the same over during his fifth delivery. The Zalmi captain got caught with a straight delivery on the middle-stump. The video has prompted several claims of match ‘fixing’ ever since it was posted online.

Islamabad run short of the chase

During Islamabad United’s run-chase, Sohaib Maqsood and Alex Hales went strong for a combined 115 runs. However, Zalmi’s Aamer Jamal cut the pair short as he clean bowled Sohaib off a fuller delivery. Aamer then bowled off Hales and fielded off his follow through to run out Faheem Ashraf at the non-striker’s end.

Islamabad captain Shadab Khan then came into the scene needing 24 off Aamer’s last over. However, me managed to hit just one six before falling out short. Following the win, Zalmi are now facing off against Shaheen Afridi’s Lahore Qalandars for a final match berth. In the other eliminator round, Multan Sultans won over Qalandars to qualify for the final.
