Have a look at the 2023 Australian Open seedings, players and how does it work in the draw?
Now that the Australian Open 2023 is here, it is time to reveal the men’s seeds for the competition.
At a Grand Slam, being a seed protects you from competing against other seeds until the championship round.
It also enables tennis fans and critics to anticipate upcoming matches while the tournament is underway.
Australian Open 2023 seedings and players list
Following World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal from the first grand slam, who is the top seed? Have a look at everything you need to know about the seeded player and how it works, below:
The Australian Open uses the current ATP men’s rankings to establish the men’s seed order, which is 32 players, just like the other three Grand Slams.
The ATP rankings from the Monday before the event start are typically used by the organisers.
The seeding method for the US Open, French Open, and Wimbledon has recently been the same, however, Wimbledon just adopted it in 2021. Up until the 2021 competition, Wimbledon organisers employed a computer-based approach favouring results on a grass court to determine the seeds, giving players who had advanced at Wimbledon the previous year an advantage.
Australian Open 2023 seeds
Given that there are probably multiple injured players among the top 32 competitors, the men’s seeds at the Australian Open won’t exactly correspond to the men’s ATP rankings.
World No. 1 is injured and Rafael Nadal will be the No. 1 seed as a result of Carlos Alcaraz’s absence from the main draw, which means that all other players will move up at least one slot in the seedings order.
Due to absentees and injured players, a number of players outside the top 32 could be seeded.
