Australian Open has bid goodbye for the year 2022 with their last fixture of Men’s Singles category was scheduled between Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Russia’s Daniil Medvedev.
Nadal had defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada while Medvedev overcame Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greek to reach the phrase final for the battle of the trophy at the Rod Laver Arena.

A dramatically ending match that went in favour of World No. Six. The match lasted for long five hours and 24 minutes. Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev 2-6, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 to add another Australian Open trophy.

The Spaniard has now won the most Grand Slams title surpassing Swiss legend Roger Federer and Serbian Novak Djokovic.

Earlier, the “Big Three” shared the record of “20 Grand Slam titles” each where Djokovic in the previous season won three Grand Slams in a calendar year (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon) but with the win in Melbourne for Nadal, he now leads both with the most in Men’s Singles.

The King of Clay, despite reaching seven finals at the Australian Open has only won two and struggled in the initial sets today. Medvedev started with dominating in the first two sets but Nadal bounced back with his powerful shots from the third. The Russian needed extra powers to his shots to beat Nadal but it was not enough in front of the newly crowned 2022 Australian Open champion’s serve.

Australian Open 2022 Men’s Singles Final Winner Prize Money Pool Distribution
Rafael Nadal, with his 21st Grand Slam title and 2nd Australian Open trophy, will be awarded $2.875 million prize money for the achievement. Daniil Medvedev will be given $1.575 million for reaching the final of the Grand Slam in Melbourne.
Semifinalists namely, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Felix Auger-Aliassime went home with $895,000 each.
