India’s path to the 2025 WTC final was not simple; in addition to defeating Australia in Sydney, they also needed to rely on Sri Lanka to whitewash the Kangaroos in a two-match Test series that began at home on January 27.
As has been the case throughout the five-match Test series between Australia and India, the Indian team is undergoing change, and some of the top players in Indian Test cricket will not be included in the squad for the upcoming WTC cycle, which starts with India’s trip of England in June 2025.
Australia and South Africa will face off in the 2025 World Test Championship final. With two games left in the current WTC cycle, Australia is in second place, while South Africa advanced to the final after leading the WTC points table 2023–25.

The one-off Test will be played at the iconic London venue from 11 to 15 June 2025, with 16 June available as a reserve day if required incase of rain or bad weather.

With a resounding victory in Perth to begin the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, India increased their PCT to 61.11 and their point total to 110. With three more victories from the final four games needed to guarantee a position in the WTC final, this victory kept their chances alive before the side fell to a 3-1 series defeat.
