Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon is the official name and popularly known as Open Sud de France is a tournament that comes under the ATP Tour 250 series of the ATP Tour.

The 2022 season of the tournament has kicked off on January 30 with Round of 32 fixtures doing January and will end on February 6th 2022 in France.

The tournament was not held in the year 2011 following its move to a January slot for the year 2012.

The first edition of the tournament was commenced from the year 1987. Yannick Noah of France defeated Joakim Nystrom of den 6-4, 7-5 to clinch the first Open Sud de France.

1988- Yahiya Doumbia (now retired) from Senegal became the champion overcoming Todd Nelson of America 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

1989- American John McEnroe outlasted Switzerland’s Jakob Hlasek with a score of 6-3, 7-6 to win the title in Lyon.

1990- Swiss Marc Rosset managed to defeat Swedish Mats Wilander 6-3, 6-2 to claim the title that year.

In 1991, legendary Pete Sampras of America defeated the French Olivier Delaitre 6-1, 6-1.

Pete Sampras for the second time won Open Sud de France in 1992 defeating Cedric Pioline 6-4, 6-2.

History got repeated in the year 1993 as Pete Sampras and 1992 runner up Cedric Pioline reached the final of the tournament where the result was duplicated as the previous year. Sampras for the third time back to back won the trophy defeating the Frenchman 7-6(7-5), 1-6, 7-5.

1994- Three years of Pete Sampras owning the tournament, it was a chance for Swiss Marc Rosset to win the title for the second time beating Jim Courier of America 6-4, 7-6(7-2).

1995- Wayne Ferreira of South Africa dominated then three times champion Pete Sampras 7-6(7-2), 5-7, 6-3, to clinch the title while the American had to end up being runner up that time.

1996-Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov beat Arnaud Boetsch of France 7-5, 6-3.

1997- France’s Fabrice Santoro defeated Tommy Haas of Germany 6-4, 6-4.

1998-  Tommy Haas ended the year as a runner up for the second time back to back as he was defeated by Spain’s Alex Corretja 2-6, 7-6(8-6), 6-1.

1999- Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador beat Australian Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 6-2.

2000- France’s Arnaud Clement beat Australia’s Patrick Rafter 7-6(7-2), 7-6(7-5)

2001- Ivan Ljubicic beat Younes EElAynaoui 6-3, 6-2.

2002- Paul Henri Mathieu clinched the title defeating Gustavo Kuerten 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

2003- Rainer Schuttler defeated Arnaud Clement 7-5, 6-3.

2004- Robin Soderling beat Xavier Malisse 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

2005- Andy Roddrick beat Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-2.

2006- Richard Gasquet beat Marc Gicquel 6-3, 6-1.

2007- Sebastien Grojean beat Marc Gicquel 7-6(7-5), 6-4.

2008- Robin Soderling won his second title beating Julien Benneteau 6-3, 6-7(5-7), 6-1.

2009- Ivan Ljubicic won fit the second time outlasting Michael Llodra 7-5, 6-3.

2010- Defending champion Ivan Ljubicic ended up as a runner-up losing to Gael Monfils 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

The tournament in the year 2011 was not held.

2012- Tomas Berdych defeated Gael Monfils 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

2013- Richard Gasquet won his second title beating Benoit Paire 6-2, 6-3.

2014- Gael Monfils defeated the defending champion, Richard Gasquet to win his second title at the tournament.

2015- Two-time champion and 2014 runner-up Richard Gasquet for the third time won the title after beating Jerzy Janowicz 3-0, (ret.)

2016- For the fourth time, Richard Gasquet won the title (2nd consecutive) defeating Paul Henri Mathieu 7-5, 6-4.

2017- Alexander Zverev managed to defeat the four-time champion, Richard Gasquet 7-6(7-4), 6-3 and the Frenchman ended up as the runner-up.

2018- Richard Gasquet was yet drafted again in the final and this time by countrymate Lucas Pouille 7-6(7-4), 6-4.

2019- Final between French men where Jo Wilfried Tsonga beat Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 6-2.

2020- Gael Monfils won his third title beating Vasek Pospisil 7-5, 6-3.

2021- David Gryphon defeated Roberto Bautista-Agut 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
