Let’s talk about the top heavy favourites at the Roland Garros tournament along with the predictions for the French Open 2022
The wait is over as the second Grand Slam of the year has already started. The major tournament kicked off with its qualifiers on May 16 and will run until June 5. While the 126th edition of the Roland Garros is back in 2022, let us have a look at the top heavy favourites at the event.
ATP French Open Tennis 2022 Men’s Singles Predictions, Top Favorite Players And Betting Odds
1- Novak Djokovic
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is a heavy favourite at the Roland Garros tournament. Although King of Clay Rafael Nadal is also contending as a big favourite, the Spaniard was seen limping in the last 16 of the Italian Open against Denis Shapovalov. It is anticipated that the 21-times Grand Slam champion will bounce back stronger.
Meanwhile, Djokovic seemed to have already regained his form back. The No. 1 ATP player did not get a chance to contend in several events this tennis season as well as, he wasn’t allowed to defend his title at the Australian Open following a controversial medical exemption. The Serb then suffered two early exits but bounced back at home ground reaching the final of the Serbia Open. He then clinched the title at Italian Open defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Novak gets better match by match and is currently in very good form as well as better physical health. The player from Serbia will try everything to defend his title.
2- Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal is a top heavy favourite at the Roland Garros tournament. The Spanish professional is a King of Clay for a reason. He has won the most French Open titles counting 13. The 21-times Grand Slam champion has already won three ATP titles including one at the historical Grand Slam.
The reason Nadal is not top is that he was seen limping and in pain during his Round of 16 match against Denis Shapovalov in Rome, Italy. The Spaniard has returned on clay in Paris France and is expected to have recovered from the pain.
3- Carlos Alcaraz
From a qualifier to a heavy favourite at the Roland Garros tournament within 12 months. Carlos Alcaraz has defeated both, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic back to back on clay this season in Madrid, Spain. The 19-year old came past World No. 4 Nadal, No. 1 Djokovic and No. 3 Alexander Zverev to clinch the Madrid Open title.
The reason he is not on top despite winning four ATP titles and having the best shape and physical health is the environment at French Open. Alcaraz might be feeling unfamiliar with the Grand Slam which might lower his motivation due to high pressure.
4- Stefanos Tsitsipas
Stefanos Tsitsipas has had a very good 2022 tennis season so far. Having already won a title in Monte Carlo Masters this season, the Greek has advanced to several great levels at multiple tournaments including one at the Grand Slam in Australia. He recently reached the final in Rome, Italy before losing to World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
5- Alexander Zverev
Zverev did not have a very good season in starting of tennis 2022. The German faced some early departures at several events including one at his home ground in Munich. The 25-year-old then looked to have retained his form back from the Madrid Open where he reached the final of the tournament losing to eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz. The German reached that level outlasting players like Tsitsipas, Felix Auger-Aliassime etc. At the Italian Open, he progressed to the last four before losing to No. 5 Tsitsipas.
Zverev is anticipated to continue his form in Paris as he seems to have regained his form back.
