ATP Atlanta Open 2022 Men’s Singles And Doubles Winners
Alex de Minaur vs Jenson Brooksby
On Sunday, Australian Alex de Minaur defeated American Jenson Brooksby 6-3, 6-3 to add a second ATP Atlanta championship to the one he won in 2019.
The 23-year-old Australian won his first championship since a triumph in Eastbourne in June of last year, earning him his sixth career crown.
In each of his previous victories—against Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals and Ilya Ivashka in the semifinals—Minaur had come back from a set down.
However, once De Minaur had fended off two break points in his second service game against Brooksby, he seemed to be in complete control.
He successfully avoided four of the five break points he encountered and took advantage of all four of his break chances.
Although Brooksby returned an early break in the second set, he was unable to overcome de Minaur’s tenacious defence and is still in search of his first ATP championship.
Nick Kyrgios/Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Jason Kubler/John Peers
The Atlanta Open doubles champions are Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios.
In today’s all-Australian final, the second-seeded team outperformed Jason Kubler and John Peers, winning 7-6(4) 7-5.
Since Tood Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde upset Wayne Arthurs and Sandon Stolle in Hamburg in 2000, it had been more than a decade since an ATP tournament had an all-Australian doubles final.
The Special Ks won their second tour-level championship as a team in 94 minutes after winning in three sets in a rain-delayed semifinal earlier in the day. They delivered 15 aces, and in the championship game, they all four break points they faced were saved.
The victor of the Australian Open in 2022 now has a season record of 13 wins instead of 15.
This is Kokkinakis’ third ATP doubles championship of his career and his first triumph in a foreign country at age 26.
The 27-year-old Kyrgios wins his third ATP doubles championship and keeps his perfect record in tour-level doubles finals.
After Alex de Minaur won the singles title earlier today at the ATP 250 competition, Kokkinakis and Kyrgios’ triumph completes a clean sweep for Australian athletes.
