Asian Track Cycling Championships 2022 Venue, History, Participating Countries, And What’s at Stake?
The Asian Track Cycling Championships 2022 will be held in the Indoor Cycling Velodrome at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi from June 18 to 22. Indian riders will begin their quest to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics in their own backyard. Along with the junior and para championships, the 41st edition of the big-ticket continental event will be contested. It was supposed to take place in February, but it was postponed because to COVID-19.
After multiple withdrawals, cyclists from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Turkmenistan, UAE, and Uzbekistan will now race in the New Delhi meet. For the Asian Track Cycling Championships 202, India will field a 36-member squad. The para event will include eight athletes. Due to the pandemic, Indian cyclists will compete in an international tournament for the first time in almost two years at the Asian Track Cycling Championships 2022.
Asian Track Cycling Championships 2022 Day 1 Results, India’s Performance, And Medal Winners
On the first day of contests here on Saturday, hosts India made a strong start to their Asian Track Cycling Championships campaign, winning 10 medals, including a gold. Twelve finals were held on the first day of the 41st Senior, 28th Junior Asian Track, and 10th Para Asian Track Cycling Championships, four of which were for Para Championships. In the senior and junior competitions, the Indians won one silver and six bronze medals, while in the para events, they won one gold, one silver, and one bronze.
Indian riders Rejiye Kh Devi, Chayanika Gogoi, Meenakshi, and Monika Jat beat Uzbekistan cyclists to take bronze in the senior women’s 4km team pursuit event with a time of 4:44.699s. The Indian team won a medal in the senior women’s category in any Asian Track Cycling Championships for the first time in 17 years. Korea and Kazakhstan won gold and silver in the event, respectively.
Niraj Kumar, Birjit Yumnam, Aashirwad Saxena, and Gurnoor Poonia combined to time 4:22.737s and finish third in the junior men’s 4km team pursuit race, giving India another medal. Kazakhstan took home the gold medal, while Korea took home the silver. India won bronze in the senior men’s 4km team pursuit event for the second time. Japan was the gold medalist, while Korea came in second.
In the para women’s C1-C5 500m time trial, India’s Jyoti Gaderaya won gold ahead of compatriot Geeta Rao with a time of 58.283s.

No. 1 junior in the world For the sprint events, Ronaldo Singh and veteran Esow Alben will be the big names to watch from the Indian team. With veteran Deborah Herold missing from the team, India’s top picks in the women’s section will be Mayuri Lute and Trishya Paul. Viswajit Singh will carry India’s ambitions in endurance races.
Vishwajeet, Meenakshi, and Aashirwad Saxena, Gurnoor Poonia, Srimathi J, and Sadnya Kotake are among the Indian team’s younger members. The strongest teams in the competition will be Korea, Malaysia, Japan, and Kazakhstan.
