The opening ceremony of the 4th Asian Para Games will kick off in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang Province on Sunday, 22 October.
Themed “Hearts Meet, Dreams Shine,” the ceremony will take place at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center, or “Big Lotus,” on Sunday evening and the 85-minute event revolves around the image of osmanthus, the city’s official flower.

The Asian Para Games 2022 was originally scheduled to take place from October 9 to 15, 2022, however, organizers had to postpone it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Asian Para Games
The first-ever edition of the Asian Para Games took place in 2010, in Guangzhou, China. Since then, the Games have taken place in Incheon, South Korea, in 2014 and in Jakarta-Palembang back in 2018. So far, 44 participating nations have taken part in the Asian Para Gamesโ history. In the three editions of the competition so far, China, India, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, and Pakistan, have been the most notable.

For the upcoming competition, team India will field a contingent of 309 athletes, including 196 men and 113 women. The Indian contingent will compete for medals in across 17 different disciplines. Out of those 17 events, athletes will compete in five different sports – Canoeing, Blind Football, Lawn Bowls, Rowing, and Taekwondo – for the first time this year.

The competition will begin tomorrow, October 22, 2023, and it will go on until Saturday, October 28, 2023. Prior to the start of the competition, the organizers will host an opening ceremony to kick-start the event.
