The Indian men’s volleyball team delivered a remarkable performance at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, securing their place in the knockout round with a thrilling 3-2 victory over South Korea, the silver medalists from the previous edition. This hard-fought match, which lasted for two hours and 38 minutes, saw India triumph with set scores of 25-27, 29-27, 25-22, 20-25, and 17-15.
Having previously defeated Cambodia 3-0, India emerged as the leaders of their group, accumulating a total of five points. Key contributions from Amit Gulia and Ashwal Rai played a pivotal role in India’s success, significantly adding to the team’s overall point tally. In the next round, India is set to face either Chinese Taipei or Mongolia as they continue their pursuit of a medal. It’s noteworthy that India’s last medal in this competition dates back to the 1986 edition when they secured a bronze medal. In the previous edition held in Indonesia, India finished in the 12th position.
