2023 Asian Games men’s volleyball quarterfinal results, semi-final schedule, date, venue, & qualified teams
The Indian men’s team entered the match on a high note, having secured victory in their previous three matches, including impressive wins against South Korea and Chinese Taipei. In contrast, Japan had opted to field their second-choice team at the Asian Games, as they were focused on preparing their Asian Championship-winning squad for the upcoming Olympic 2024 qualifiers. Despite India’s efforts, Japan’s backup players showcased their exceptional skill and depth, effectively eliminating any chance of a surprising upset. They dominated the match, winning in straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-17 at the China Textile Sports City Centre Gymnasium on Sunday.
During the first set, India managed to string together a brief three-point sequence, and in the second set, they began with a four-point streak. However, Japan continued to assert their dominance and secured the first two sets with scores of 25-16 and 25-18, respectively. In the early stages of the third set, Ashwal and LM Manoj put up a strong performance, contributing with blocks and attacking points. At a tied score of 12-12, it seemed like India might mount a comeback, but Japan regained control and ultimately secured their spot in the semifinals.
