On Monday, the Indian women’s basketball team suffered a 57-96 defeat against North Korea, marking their exit from the quarterfinal stage of the 2023 Asian Games. In this match held at the Shaoxing Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, India struggled against the formidable squad of North Korea and the four quarters ended with scores of 20-26, 6-26, 17-22, 14-22 in favor of North Korea.

Although the Indian team displayed a promising start and challenged North Korea in the first quarter, they couldn’t maintain the momentum and were outperformed in the subsequent three quarters. Earlier in the tournament, India secured the second position in Group A by defeating Indonesia 66-46 and Mongolia 68-62 but suffered a 53-111 loss to the defending champions, China. North Korea is set to face China in the semifinal tie on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Philippines men’s basketball team completely outplayed Qatar to earn a commanding 80-41 victory and qualify for the quarterfinal phase. Notably, the Gilas Pilipinas made a remarkable comeback after their previous loss to Jordan on Saturday. They surged ahead by an impressive 34-point margin at halftime, enabling Coach Tim Cone to grant some well-deserved rest to his starting players in preparation for Tuesday’s quarter-final clash against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
