2023 Asian Games basketball India vs China schedule, date, venue, format, & participating teams
The Philippines fell short of securing an automatic berth in the men’s basketball quarter-finals during the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. They suffered a 87-62 defeat to Jordan on Saturday. Both teams had previously won both of their respective games in Group C before this crucial matchup, where the victor would claim the top position and the loser would enter a quarter-final qualification playoff. Initially, the Gilas took an early 13-6 lead, but Jordan responded with a 10-point run, finishing the first quarter with a 16-13 lead. Rondae Jefferson played a significant role for Jordan in the second period, contributing 11 points, including a buzzer-beating basket, to give his team a halftime advantage of 42-29.
In the third quarter, three-pointers from Justin Brownlee and Jaymar Perez helped the Gilas stage a late comeback, leveling the score briefly. However, some ill-timed fouls allowed Jordan to regain the lead, and they ultimately pulled away in the final quarter to secure their spot in the quarter-finals. Justin Brownlee was the leading scorer for the Philippines with 24 points, despite making just eight of his 22 field goal attempts. For Jordan, Rondae Jefferson led the way with an impressive performance, contributing 24 points, nine assists, and six rebounds.
