In the last edition of the Asian Games, the Indian weightlifting contingent failed to secure any medal wins.
Hangzhou Asian Games 2023 team India preview
Renowned Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who is a former world champion, Commonwealth Games champion, and Olympic silver medalist, will make her Asian Games debut at the upcoming event in Hangzhou. She previously missed the last edition owing to an injury.
The 29-year-old skipped the World Weightlifting Championships to prepare for the upcoming event. As such, she will be determined to make a strong first impression. Mirabai Chanu will compete in the women’s 49kg division while her compatriot Bindyarani Devi, will compete in the women’s 55kg category. Devi is a Commonwealth Games silver medalist, and she and Mirabai are the only two athletes representing India in weightlifting.
