The prestigious Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, also known as the Big Lotus, served as the setting for the magnificent inauguration. A blend of China’s rich cultural legacy and its modern dynamism was fully on display during the Asian Games 2023 opening ceremony.

An Indian team with 655 members will compete in 41 out of the 61 disciplines at the 19th Asian Games. The Asian Games 2023 will take place in 56 different locations and provide 481 gold medals.

The medal count for the Asian Games 2023 will be closely watched as athletes like Neeraj Chopra, the Indian hockey teams, and the badminton pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty compete.

India will try to beat their previous best of 70 medals at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. For the competition that was postponed owing to the CoViD-19 pandemic last year, India has fielded 655 competitors.

With 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze medals across all sports, India placed eighth in the medal count at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. With 289 medals, including 132 gold, 92 silver, and 65 bronze, China took first place. Japan came in second with 205 medals, and South Korea came in third with 177.

The men’s and women’s football teams in India have begun play, and the men’s squad has already recorded its first victory. While the men’s volleyball team only made it to the quarterfinals, the women’s cricket team advanced to the semifinals.
