Notably, the 23-year-old Indian lost in the Round of 32 against Indonesian ace Gregoria Mariska Tunjung with scores of 17-21, 16-21.
Meanwhile, HS Prannoy, India’s highest-ranked men’s singles player, currently standing at world No. 7, had a less challenging encounter against Batdavaa Munkhbat from Mongolia, who holds the 311th spot in the world rankings. Prannoy dominated the match, winning with a score of 21-9, 21-12 in just 25 minutes. In another impressive performance, Kidambi Srikanth, ranked 21st in the world, triumphed over Yun Gyu Lee from the Republic of Korea, who is ranked 122nd globally, with a score of 21-16, 21-11 in the men’s singles round of 32, securing his spot in the next round.
Ashwini Ponnappa, who secured a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games, along with her partner Tanisha Crasto, advanced to the round of 16 in their badminton match as their opponents, Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail and Aishath Afnaan Rasheed of Maldives, withdrew from the contest. At the time of the withdrawal, the Indian pair was leading with a score of 21-2, 12-2. In another match, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand triumphed over Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq and Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq from the Maldives, securing victory with a score of 21-14, 21-12.
