The Indian archers at the continental showcase soon displayed their prowess, particularly in the competition’s compound class. India has more assurance going into the upcoming tournaments thanks to their strong performance and high rankings.
Atanu Das and Ankita Bhakat’s Indian recurve mixed pair archery duo defeated Malaysia in an exciting three-set battle to go to the Asian Games quarterfinals.
The top-seeded Indian combination of Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam won the compound mixed team competition by defeating Amna Alawadhi and Mohammed Binamro of the UAE with a score of 159-151 after dropping just one point out of a possible 16 arrows. In the quarterfinals, they will now play Malaysia.
After falling behind 2-0, the fifth-seeded Indian combination of Das and Ankita came back to upset the Malaysian combo of Syaqiera Binti Mashayikh and Muhamad Zarif Syahir Bin Zolkepeli 6-2 (39-38, 37-36, 39-33).
Ojas, Abhishek Verma, and Prathamesh Jawkar, the second-seeded Indian team in the compound men’s team competition, easily defeated Singapore 235-219.
In the men’s division, seasoned competitor Atanu Das took fourth, while promising youngster Dhiraj Bommadevara placed sixth. The Indian men’s recurve team scored a total of 2022 points thanks to their efforts, which helped them qualify as the third seed.
With her excellent performance, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, an accomplished Indian compound archer who won eight medals at the World Championships, attracted attention. At the halfway point of the 36-arrow session, she had 355 points, including 15 Xs (shots closer to the centre) and 16 flawless 10s.
