Know all details about the Asia Cup 2025 and its schedule, which will be played in India come September 2025
India is poised to host the Men’s Asia Cup 2025, scheduled for September and to be played in the T20 format. Despite recent media reports claiming that India may pull out of the tournament due to ongoing political tensions with Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly addressed the matter. Devajit Saikia, BCCI secretary, emphasized that any reports suggesting India’s withdrawal from the Asia Cup were entirely speculative and imaginary.

“Since this morning, it has come to our notice about some news items about BCCI’s decision not to participate in Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC’s events. Such news is devoid of any truth as till now, BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding the ensuing ACC events, let alone writing anything to the ACC. At this stage, our prime focus is on the ongoing IPL and subsequent England series, both men and women,” Saikia said.

According to early updates, the Asia Cup 2025 is slated to be held in September in India, and as with the previous edition, it will follow the T20 format. The full schedule and venues of the 17th edition of the tournament are yet to be revealed though with it still unsure if the tournament will go ahead if India who holds the hosting rights pulls out in the wake of tensions with Pakistan.
The tournament will feature eight teams, promising a high-octane contest among Asia’s finest. The five full members of the Asian Cricket Council — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka — have secured automatic qualification.
Joining them will be Hong Kong, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates, who earned their spots by finishing in the top three of the 2024 ACC Men’s Premier Cup. India, the reigning champions, will return to defend their title, having overwhelmed Sri Lanka in a dominant 10-wicket victory during the 2023 Asia Cup final. That win marked India’s eighth Asia Cup title, making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
The previous edition of the tournament was mired in political tensions, with India declining to travel to Pakistan. Consequently, a hybrid model was implemented, with India playing their matches in Sri Lanka. Despite the controversy, India delivered a dominant performance, including a massive 228-run win over Pakistan in the Super Fours, effectively eliminating their arch-rivals from the competition.
In the final held in Colombo, Mohammed Siraj delivered a sensational spell, picking up six wickets to bowl Sri Lanka out for a paltry 50 runs. India comfortably chased the target, lifting the trophy in emphatic fashion. India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan continued, as they later opted to play all their matches in Dubai during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan co-hosted. India defeated Pakistan in the group stage, and went on to beat New Zealand in the final, claiming the Champions Trophy title.
