In the 23rd minute, Messi converted a penalty kick to give Argentina the lead over France. Thirteen minutes later, Angel Di Mara extended the lead. Disaster, however, came late in the second half as Mbappé scored twice in a minute to take the game to the Extra times.

Messi continued unfazed and gave Argentina the lead again, but Mbappé quickly neutralised this by scoring a penalty in the 118th minute to tie Geoff Hurst’s (UK) record for the most goals by a player in a FIFA World Cup final (3).
