Lee Zii Jia has secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the BWF Arctic Open 2023, after the Malaysian badminton sensation narrowly defeated Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo with scores of 21-17, 18-21, 21-11 in the men’s singles match on Thursday. Lee demonstrated his resilience in the pivotal third game, employing a cautious strategy that ultimately bore fruit as he clinched victory with his second match point. Next on his agenda is a clash with fellow Malaysian Leong Jun Hao, who overcame Arnaud Merkle of France with a score-line of 15-21, 21-17, 21-19 to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
On the women’s singles front, top seed Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei triumphed over Thailand’s Supanida Katethong, with scores of 21-19, 21-16, setting the stage for a quarter-final encounter with the 12th-ranked player in the world, Pornpawee Chochuwong. Meanwhile, PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist from India, advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Wen Chi Hsu of Chinese Taipei with a commanding performance, securing a 21-11, 21-10 victory. This marked Sindhu’s third consecutive win over the 22nd-ranked player globally, as she had previously beaten Hsu in straight games during the round of 32 at the Asian Games.
