Antonio Conte’s Career
Conte, who last coached in Serie A three years ago, began his managerial career at Arezzo, Siena, and Bari.
He gained prominence when Juventus appointed him in the summer of 2011, where he led the club to their first Scudetto since the 2006 Calciopoli scandal.
After stepping down in 2014, he managed the Italian national team, guiding them to the quarterfinals of UEFA Euro 2016. In the summer of 2016, Conte joined Chelsea, winning the Premier League title in his first season.
Despite winning the FA Cup, he was sacked after his second season due to a strained relationship with owner Roman Abramovich. Conte returned to Italian soccer in 2019 with Inter, winning the Scudetto in his second season.
However, he resigned after the club’s financial issues forced the sale of key players Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi.
In November 2021, former Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici persuaded Conte to join Tottenham.
He led Spurs to a top-four finish and Champions League qualification but parted ways with the club in March 2023.
Now, Conte is poised for a comeback as De Laurentiis appoints him and his backroom staff to restore Napoli’s glory.
Following the club’s failure to qualify for European competitions and finishing tenth in the league, a stark contrast to their historic Scudetto win the previous year, Conte’s leadership is seen as a beacon of hope.
For the unversed, Napoli had cycled through three managers; Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzarri, and Francesco Calzona, since parting ways with Luciano Spalletti in the summer of 2023, but none could recapture the club’s former magic.
